Inmarsat has today launched its first worldwide handheld satellite television telephone - IsatPhone Pro - which has been purpose-built for its system.
It offers the longest battery life in the market, one of the most powerful handset, dependable global coverage, clear voice quality and ease of use - all at one of the most competitive price point in the market. The satellite phone antennas are also very much expensive and include high technology during its production.
Price and performance
Andrew Sukawaty, chairman and chief executive of Inmarsat, mentioned: "The suggested retail price for IsatPhone Pro is US$699, although pricing promotions are expected to provide the end-user cost to US$500-600.
"With the promotional incentives at launch - the IsatPhone Pro is really a game changer.
"This phone gives us cost and performance leadership for the remote environment market.
"It targets clients served by Inmarsat for decades, both at sea and in one of the most remote parts from the global landmass. It is supported by our current satellite network and it uses proven technology customised for use in these environments.
Powerful handset
"The IsatPhone Pro is tailor-made for difficult use. Rugged, splash and dirt proof, and with long battery life, it provides global service from day one. This is the initial satellite television telephone to be built for that Inmarsat network from the ground-up - responding to customer needs - for use in harsh environments. The sat mobile phones connect to the satellites and send info to other phones via the satellites. The satellites in fact become the medium of information transmission for satellite phones.
