I'm a sufferer of depressive disorders and panic attacks. It requires almost everything I have everyday in order to get up and be relatively productive. Although almost everything appears to be well with my life, the truth is it is just a day by day existence with very little thought of actually getting healthier. What I am hoping for is just getting through the day. It is in this mindset that I provide the following suggestions. Keep in mind that I'm not a physician and everyone really should seek therapy if only to verify that you are not crazy!
Panic attacks come on anytime of the day or night. If you have ever been so fearful and out of control, then you have probably had an idea of exactly what an anxiety attack feels like to the average sufferer. Ever feel as though you were in certain danger and had to run away? That is precisely what a panic attack feels like. It comes on strong, scares the daylights out of you, and it's gone
Listed here are a few strategies on how to cope.
1. Participate in Your Treatment
You shouldn't sit back and expect relief to come by itself! You need to continue being active and aware of the mind and body's reactions to treatment. You should be ready and willing to ask any and every question and also to address each and every concern you have with your doctor. Open lines of communication will certainly increase the possibility of control and success.
2. Be Patient
Even though many individuals respond within weeks or sometimes even days to therapies for panic attacks, nobody reacts the same. Moreover, no known remedies for panic and anxiety perform instantaneously. Be prepared to commit a minimum of an entire two months following your preliminary course of treatment before you begin judging its effectiveness. If you still have not experienced the progress you were looking for, you can always talk with your provider to fine-tune your treatment plan then.
3. Be Alert To Adverse Reactions
If part of your therapy requires medication, you will probably need to be mindful and provide a lot of feedback to the medical professional until the dose and kind of medicine is decided. Be sure your physician explains to you the unintended side effects you might have to expect. Usually they get much easier to tolerate with time however it's important you are aware of what you should expect. Your doctor may well begin lowering your dosage, or seeking alternatives if the side effects are pronounced or can't be tolerated.
4. Join A Panic Disorder Support Group
If misery loves company, then a good source of support, relief and information for individuals who suffer from anxiety attacks can be found in the support group. Now I'm a huge fan of support groups because they tend to validate problems rather than focusing on correcting or coping with them. I do realize however that some people find great comfort and support in these communities and for those people, be sure to attend and enjoy. Most attendees will be discussing their experiences, their treatments and coping suggestions.
Just keeping these recommendations in mind and putting them to use during your treatment may help make you feel much better and enhance your chances of the treatment being successful.
